Carole Robert / CEO, PharmAfrican

Carole Robert is helping to lead the effort to create entrepreneurial models of sustainable economic development in Africa, through her leadership of the bio-pharma company called PharmAfrican as well as the philanthropic entity that she helped launch, The BDA Foundation.

Carole has had extensive experience in government relations, strategic analysis and marketing communications. She has been active with numerous organizations dedicated to economic development, serving as Chairperson of the World Trade Centre of Montreal (1996-2001), as a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Montréal International (1997-2003), as a member on the Economic Development Committee for the Montreal Board of Trade (2001- ), and as a participant in many other intergovernmental commissions.

Carole currently serves as the CEO of PharmAfrican, an early stage bio-pharma company with operations in Congo, Africa. PharmAfrican has launched a joint venture with a community of Jesuits who have worked in Congo for more than a century. The goal is ambitious but promising: helping people with medicines through the harvest of botanicals found there (in Africa's "Garden of Eden") in a manner that results in sustainable African economic development. Carole is also a Board member of The BDA Foundation, which is helping to create "Fair Trade" practices in the bio-pharma industry.

Carole was honored during the Gala des Femmes du Siècle et de la Relève as the recipient of the Personnalité Relève Exportation award, and the Grand Prix de l'Exportation, by Economic Development Canada.

Carole has her undergraduate and MBA degrees from Université de Montréal. She has two boys and lives outside of Montreal.

She has retained Helixx to help her launch her for-profit and non-profit ventures, and to help in the effort to communicate new models of sustainable economic development in Africa.
